ICU provides a Unicode implementation, with functions for formatting numbers, dates, times, and currencies (according to locale conventions, transliteration, and parsing text in those formats). It provides flexible patterns for formatting messages, where the pattern determines the order of the variable parts of the messages, and the format for each of those variables. These patterns can be stored in resource files for translation to different languages. Included are more than 100 codepage converters for interaction with non-unicode systems. This is a major release with new features, new APIs, and many bugfixes in data and code. Unicode 5.1 is supported, and CLDR 1.6 includes many improvements. Supported calendars now include Chinese, Coptic, and Ethiopic calendars. New APIs were added such as add/removeLikelySubtags. The charset converter file size was improved. This release includes Date Interval Formatting and Improved Plural support. Security improvements include fixes for CVE-2007-4770, CVE-2007-4771, and CVS-2008-1036.

Mylene is a command line MPEG audio player. It can play plain and system embedded MPEG audio streams. It works for Linux OSS and ALSA emulated OSS and Mac OS X. The player can be used interactively by telling it to establish a UNIX or INET server on which commands can be received. The seek-h262 MPEG decoder is required for audio and system MPEG decoding. Views 2, CCK 2, and Organic Groups Release Candidates now available for Drupal 6!

We are excited to announce that three key modules, Views, CCK, and Organic Groups, have published release candidates today, ready for testing. If you are interested in speeding the transition to a full release, install and test the Release Candidates (RC). Many months of work have gone into extensive rewrites of these modules, leading to major improvements that will make Drupal 6 an even more attractive platform for building websites.

As always, you should upgrade these modules on a test site first, and make sure to make a complete backup. You never know how your site's customizations will affect things, or what silly little thing nobody else caught.

Virtual cameras offer the same interface as regular cameras to client applications (such as Skype), but provide user-generated or user-modified imagery rather than imagery directly from a camera. While ucanvcam comes with a set of special effects, the main intent is to make building virtual cameras easier for people without OS-specific knowledge, so they can focus purely on image processing.
